“Pasažieru vilciens” progresses from silver to gold in the Sustainability Index
Since 2010, Latvian companies and institutions measure with the Sustainability Index how purposefully their initiatives not only promote their growth, but also have positive impact on the surrounding environment, labour market, market relations, society, country and world in general.
Last year, “Pasažieru vilciens” submitted own practice for evaluation in this index for the first time and debuted in the silver category. Over the course of one year, we have already managed to implement a number of received recommendations and improve our performance – this year, “Pasažieru vilciens” has advanced to the gold category. The transport sector is represented in this category also by such companies as “Air Baltic”, “Latvijas dzelzceļš”, “Rīgas satiksme”.
What is the Sustainability Index? It is a national scale assessment which allows companies and institutions not only to receive public recognition, but also objectively assess own performance in the area of corporate sustainability and responsibility: what has been accomplished so far, how qualitatively, and what still needs to be done to achieve excellence. Participants of the Sustainability Index demonstrate courage, openness and commitment to improve their performance on an annual basis. This year, the performance of “Pasažieru vilciens” was rated in five areas – strategy, working environment, investment in the local community, market relations and environment.
More than 100 companies and institutions competed for obtaining one of the five rating categories – bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond. “Pasažieru vilciens” is one of the most convincing, powerful and sustainable recipients of the gold award. We share this honour with “Latvijas televīzija”, “Olainfarm”, “Rīgas meži”, “Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks” and other major companies.
